12.12: The Day (Seoul-i bom, 2023)

China LG Blu-ray BD-R ? 2024 edition region all

This very well made and big budgeted political thriller is based on historical events,
the military coup in South Korea of December 12th 1979. The coup followed the
10.26 incident AKA the October 26 assassination of dictator Park Chung-hee
and with this move the military ended the short-lived Korean Seoul Spring with
it's fragile democrazy.

The film was released in South Korea in November 22 but still managed to be the
Korean Super Blockbuster of 2023.

Even though you know how the film will end, with General Chun's usurping of
power, the film still manages to be suspenseful and you are on the edge of your
seat all through. Seemingly no costs were spared and the acting was great from
everyone involved, and especially so from the two opponents of the film, Jung
Woo-sung and Hwang Jeong -min. OK, Hwang Jun-min admittedly kinda steals
every scene he's in as the Bad Guy and you watch him with fascination.

The Story:

General Chun Doo-gwang (Hwang Jun/Jeong -min) leads the investigation group
after the 10.26 incident. His opponent General Lee Tae-shin (Jung Woo-sung)
does not like the harsh measures Chun is taking, with the arrests and torture of
prisoners. The Martial Law Commander Jeong (Lee Sung-min) is worried of Chun
grabbing the power backed by the Security Agency and the Hanahoe (the
latter s secret military society, non-democratic nationalistic).

Commander Jeong wants General Lee to be the commander of the Capital
Garrison Defence and the guardian of Seoul. General Chun plans to grab the
power of South Korea with a coup and to get rid of Jeong and Lee.
Will he succeed due to power greed, cowardize, fascism (and probably CIA)?

The film is presented in widescreen, korean audio DD 5.1 with english subtitles
region all, no extras
