Yes, almost a perfect B movie, a trashy thriller with nice pace, a female fighter out for revenge, a great villain in
maverick director Anurag Kashyap's rotten cop and violence En Masse. It was VERY entertaining to watch and
Bollywood popcorn at it's best and we get to see Sonakshi Sinha's fighting skills - Go Get Them Girl! Female
Revenge is always nice on film, but this film may be mostly for genre lovers and not the mainstream crowds as Akira
is a certified bloodbath. Earlier i've only seen Sonakshi in the romantic drama Lootera, a different but very fine film.

Akira is tamil director A.R. Murugadoss hindi film re-make of his own 2011 tamil film Mouna Guru, and it's his only
3rd hindi film. Murugadoss 1st was the trashily enjoyable Ghajini in 2008, a re-make of his 2005 tamil film, and
his 2nd the action thriller Holiday in 2014 with Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha (which i haven't seen).

The Bad Guy - Anurag Kashyap as Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Govind Rane

Akira Sharma (Sonakshi Sinha) is a student who've had a harsh childhood and she has learnt to defend herself with
some insights into the martial arts. After a stint in jail for defending girls in her village and beating up a perp her brother
makes her move to Mumbai to study at the Holy Cross Academy.
But almost immediately a gang of nasty students lead by punk Nikki (Teena Singh) starts to harass her whereby they
painfully learn she's not a girl to mess with. Akira is as tough as they come.

In a parallell story to Akira's problems at school we get to know the Evil police squad lead by the rotten bastard ACP
Rane (Anurag Kashyap, the Bollywood New Wave director is nasty and fun in the part).
The Dirty Quartet with Rane, Manik (Lokesh Gupte), Baapurao (Uday Sadnis) and Rajeshwar (Nandu Madhav) and
we've seen this rotten police squad before in similar films as the one in Tigmanshu Dhulia's "Shagird" from 2011 with
Nana Patekar in Kashyap's role and with Anurag Kashyap as a killer also in that one.
When the 4 policemen by chance get their hands on a suitcase filled with money everything start to spiral out of control
which leads to murder, when ACP Rane tries to remove all the trails of the theft leading to him.

Hmmm ... Yes - Konkona Sen Sharma as Superintendent of Police, SP Rabia

Soon the 2 parallell stories connect when someone anonymous make ACP Rane to shift his interest to Akira, and he
starts weaving a murderous plan for her. As we've seen in many Bollywood films an indian policeman of some rank, as
an ACP, can do just whatever he likes, murder and harass, so - can anyone stop him?
His pregnant superior and brilliant crime investigator SP Rabia maybe, or a mid 20's female student filled with rage ?
Aaah, Konkona Sen Sharma ... she's great and here's a pervert alert ... Warning! Pervert Alert! Pervert Alert!

There's something alluring to indian film policewomen, e.g. Konkona Sen Sharma in this film, Rani Mukherjee in Mardaani
(2014), Tabu in Drishyam (2015) or Mamta Malik in Pink. They would probably beat you to a pulp with their bamboo
sticks ... but, some film fans would surely consider it ... if it was Konkona, Rani, Tabu or Mamta ... hmmm, yes?"

ACP Rane - "that bloody Rabia, always honest, we can't shut her up with a share either"

Anurag Kashyap maybe isn't the greatest actor, but he clearly enjoys playing the nasty Rane and is funny to watch, and
his underling police officers are all fine. Sonakshi Sinha is OK playing the tough Akira and Konkona, even though she
wears that same serious face in all her scenes, just exudes charisma as SP Rabia. Also, the mental hospital buddy to
Akira named Rani (Kajol Saroj) is great ... a transexual?
