A Noir Revenge Thriller that sort of combines the Bollywood Indie artmovie style with the mainstream masala
and that has got some Sensational acting in the main role and some Great acting in the smaller roles.
Nawazuddin Siddiqui is .... is .... beyond great in his role, he's FANTASTIC and for sure one of the greatest
actors active in not just Mumbai, India but also in the World. Even though he's the Bad Guy (maybe) in this film,
a sleazy lowlife criminal, bankrobber and murderer, he still manages, at least in the later parts of the movie, to
radiate and evoke feelings of tenderness and sadness. It's genuinely Gripping and i had some tears in my eyes
watching this sensitive BRAVURA PERFORMANCE from this wonderful actor with his portrayal of Liak.

There were also some great acting from the smaller part players as Huma Qureshi's Jhimli/Shabnam as the
prostitute and Liak's old "girlfriend" and maybe only friend. The scene where they say goodbye to each other
as he's dying feels sad but true and filled with warmth.

Radhika Apte's Koko/Kanchan is also a memorable part in this film. She's so sweet and vulnerable as the
wife to Vinay Pathak's Harman, the bankrobber partner to Liak, and her fate in this film is terrible, Nasty.
Vinay Pathak is good to as Harman and Divya Dutta as the parole board woman was fine too.
Even Pratima Kannan as Liaks old mother was great in this film. True acting all over the line, mostly.

The Story:

This film has a great start with the whole bankrob scene, very impressive and delightfully chaotic.
A quite masterful action sequence (for a Bollywood film) and it could've been done by Don Siegel, the great
director who Sriram sends a special thanks to in the opening credits.
In Pune, Marashtra, 2 desperate bankrobbers hijacks a car with a woman and a small boy in it and tries to
escape the pursuing police. But the child falls out of the car and dies in a disturbing sequence (This is not
Hollywood, this is not Hollywood .... ) and the driver Liak (Siddiqui) shoots the hysterical mother.
Liaks partner, Harman (Vinay Pathak) manages to escape with the money but Liak is in for 20 year in jail
and he refuses to give the police the name of his partner.

Liak

Raghu's (Varun Dhawan) life as he knew it is over and he first tries to search for Liaks unknown partner
through a private detective, then by connecting to Jhimli, Liaks "girlfriend" and using her services also but
without any results. He then moves to Badlapur one hour away from Pune and starts his "new life" which
is a long waiting for Liaks release or for some info about who Liaks partner was.

After 15 years it's time for Revenge. Liak's released early because of a stomach cancer and he has only a
year to live. Both Raghu and the police wants to track his movements and contacting of his bankjob partner
and now the going really gets nasty. The revenge scene is disturbing, poor, poor Koko, and it's great work
from Sriram that he makes the viewer feel that way. Should Raghu get another chance ?
