The House with Laughing Windows (La Casa dalle finestre che Ridono, 1976)

US Arrow Video 4K UHD Limited edition - region all
Booklet and a Poster included with the Limited edition

Pupi Avati made a genre masterpiece here and finally ithere's a 4K UHD edition of it.
I watched for the first time in decades since the old DVD edition (see pick below)
and WOW this 4K viewing was an experience. Easily on my Gialli Top Ten list
with beautiful cinematography by Pasquale Rachini and a soundtrack by Amedeo
Tommasi that gives the film a fascinating atmosphere. It takes place in the early 1950's.

Stefano (Lino Capolicchio) is a restorer that's called in to restore a church fresco in
a village on the Italian countryside. The painting depicts the death of Saint Sebastian
and was made by a local painter, Buono Legnani, who's dead since 20 years.
The local priest dislikes it and tells Stefano that Legnani was considered crazy. He
was obsessed with macabre paintings that depicted death and was called The
Painter of Agony.

Somehow the fresco seems to have a connection with the mysterious killings
that have occurred in the village, and Stefano closes in to the secret.
Stefano meets a cute teacher, Francesca (Francesca Marciano) who moves in with him.
What about the abandoned villa called The House with Laughing Windows, and
whatabout the old bedridden lady ?

Pupi Avati also made the arty horror Zeder which I quite liked, but can't remember
it now (20 years ago), it had something to do with the dead rising again at certain
points in the earth .... or something like that
