Ryssland - Rossija - Russija - Russia Back to Start Page

Russia, our Big Brother to the east of us (Sweden) and a colossal country not just in size with it's 17 075 200 square meter, but also as a
nation of culture, it's fine arts with classical music, painting, ballet, writer and poets, and it's film makers.
When writing this (in November 2020) there's a bitter geo-political war going on between the emerging new economic Super-Power
China and the Ex one USA, and also the pandemic Corona virus is sweeping the world, so the future for all of us look somewhat bleak.
But, Russia has an enormous future potential, not just as a Super Power but also as a tourist country. Just think about it, to visit the
Lake Baikal, trekking on Kamtjatka, climbing the Ural mountains or the Caucasus, visit the Winter palace, take a boat ride on the Neva
or a swim in the Black Sea, looking out over the majestic permafrost tundra and to visit the exciting Arctic northern shorelines.
Aaah YES, Russia a melting pot of states (85) , people, cultures, languages and religions, and i dream of making a russian journey.

Cinematically, Sergei Eisenstein shaped film history with his editing and montage technique and Andrei Tarkovskiy is a Master among
the Masters, BUT .... on this page i will rarely write about the classics as i prefer to mention some of the more quirky indie ones and
the entertaining Popcorn films that the russian film industry also churns out successfully. Thriller and action films are mostly cool.
But these films are often hard to get here in Sweden or anywhere else as DVD or Blu-rays with english subtitles. Also, often it's mostly
art movies that are released. Some russian popcorn films as fantasy and sci-fi are released in USA and the UK. I used to buy my russian
films with english subs from Thailand, but these releases ebbed up some 10 years ago

The Master is Dead. Russia's Big Son of Film.
It's satirist and post-Soviet depictor. Never
again will he swing his magic wand over us
filmlovers and the film screen. The world has
become a much duller place

It reached me through a russian work-mate and the grief was intense
among fans of russian cult film. Just think of all the unique films we
won't see now. Swedish media don't know about this genius director,
the post-Soviet master. We're deep in a Hollywood abyss and our con-
formistic film critics hail pretentious bores and hipsters instead
